Default is my fuel pump going bad?

Just picked up an '03 gt (5 spd) and it runs like a champ...only issue is when I go to start it, more so when it is warm, it sometimes turns over for several seconds before starting and occasionally has a sloppy start. It also (when starting) will go to about 2k rpms, then drop to about 500, then rise and idle at 1k. My buddy with a 96 gt said he experienced a similar problem and it ended up being the fuel pump going bad. said to check the injectors as well but wouldn't the injectors cause noticible issues while driving? This is really only a start-up issue. Any ideas?? Also if it is the fuel pump would turning the key in the ignition a few times before starting tell me if this is the problem or not?

mines done it since i got it. i found that if you turn the key and wait for two dings in the dashboard (if you don't have your seatbelt on yet), then start the car, it has less of a chance of doing it. it's become a habit of mine now

interesting...well i guess not a big deal then? my biggest concern (being a NOOB) was that it may increase the risk of NOT starting one day in the near future as this is my daily driver. but as long as this won't lead to issues with it staying running when starting then i'm not too worried about it

well it is a problem and one day in the future it might not start. before i was into mustangs i was a major jeep guy. my fuel pump was dying so i would just turn the key on a couple of times to prime my system and then start her up. but eventually my fuel pump did die.

Is there any codes that popped up? Maybe fuel pump drive module? I had to switch mine recently.
