Default exhaust leak. check engine light on

the other day while driving my car it started to make a ticking/fluttering sound when i steped on it. didnt think much of it at first but then it started to get worse. i took it to my buddy who owns a shop and he told me my headder was leaking. this has happined to me befor because i have the pos bbk shorty headers. its gettin fixed on wednesday and he said i can drive it till then but not to beat on it. when he told me this the check engine light wasnt on but last night when i was commin home from work the light came on. is it still ok to drive it?
