Default tinted tail lights

I just installed my smoked tail light tint, side markers, and 3rd brake light from Stangmods. I love the new look, but i really hate the way the 3rd brake light tint only covers part of the entire lense. Because the tint is so thick you can clearly see where it ends. I need to change this.

I was thinking about taking off the the tint, and painting it to even it out. It doesn't need much as it's already a little darker from the factory.

So my question is, how much spray should i use to make it match the rest? I've never used tail light paint, so i don't know what i'm looking for. For any of you that have done this, how many coats does it take to give it that "slightly darker" smoked look to help it blend in a little better? Like i said it only needs to be slightly darker.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 3rd brakelight tint from stangmods is a piece of crap. I have their taillight ones and sidemarkers, but I decided not to use the 3rd brakelight one that I also got. It's been laying around the floor in my room for over a year now lol

i swapped tail lights with a friend.. i gave him my stangmods smoked vinyl tail lights and i got his stock ones than had them painted... improved the look 10000000x more since you cant see where the vinyl ends anymore

as for the 3rd brake light, just clean the 3rd brake light... maybe give it a gentle wet sand.. dry it off. than spray the VHT or w/e you are using from about a foot away... nice even sprays...

i did mine blackout in like 5 light coats... so i would say 2 or 3 coats will give you the desired look...

LIGHT COATS... you go heavy and you'll be dripping..

its easy. and fun

goodluck

Yeah, it's too damn thick to fold and stick, and stands out like a sore thumb because it's too short for the lense.

Did you end doing anything with the 3rd brakelight, or just left it alone? It's not too bad of a contrast, but i still want it a tad darker to perfectly match.

Okay...cool! So, it sounds like maybe 2 really light coats might be my best bet then.

Yeah, i'll definantly post some pics when it's complete. Thanks again!

I ended up going with a cobra wing and the 3rd brakelight is just a tad bit lighter than the taillights but not that bad so it's ok with me....I think the GT 3rd brakelight was similar too

^^^That doesn't look too bad. It does look about the same as the gt's 3rd brakelight in terms of darkness. Thanks for the pic!

Thanks for feedback and pics guys! I've had the tint film on for 2 days now, and i have a few small air bubbles that i'm sure will go away, but what concerns me is there appears to be what looks like fingerprints between the tint and the lense itself. Stangmods says that's normal moisture, and will go away along with the air bubbles. I know for a fact that i didn't touch the back of the tint or the lense, and did the soapy water solution. So, have any of you seen this, or had it happen to you? Does this sound normal, or did i mess something up? Also, if i did mess it up can i take it off and reapply it without problems?

Thanks again.
