FWIW... I had no choice but to have my 10.5"s widened to have 11"s as nobody makes an 11" Saleen knock-off. I heard rumours that they existed, but was unable to find any after MUCH searching

Without spacers and being widened, running my wheels with the factory off-set would have been impossible.

True, sometimes spacers are the only option, also it costs a lot less to buy a set of spacers than to buy a set of wheels.
