Question about Intercooling and Methanol Inj. in my Supercharged 4.6
i just rebuilt my 4.6 to make about 500rwhp with 10lb of boost from a paxton supercharger.
my question is that ive installed an intercooler AND methanol injection for this build. I thought that having the cooler intake charge from the intercooler and a spray of meth/water during boost would be great for my intake temp but am i overcompensating?
a few of my friends seem to think the methanol kit will be suffice and that the intercooler is just going overboard. any feedback would be awesome..

Well honestly on 10psi you will be fine with just an intercooler, the meth wont hurt the combination but its far from necessary but youll probably gain some extra ponies cause you can prob advance the timming a little more with the cooler intake temp.

Hey man, I recently had the Novi 2000 installed in my car, after blowing the stock engine after about 20,000 miles with it installed. I now have a Cobra shortblock, manley rods, SLP forged pistons and a cobra crank. I am not intercooled and I too am at 10 psi, making 417 rwhp. I will be watching this thread to see how you make out. How much hp are you making right now at 10 psi??

Hate to break it to you but 4V Cobras have quite a hard time getting to 500RWHP with their stock eaton. At 10 PSI on that blower you wont even be neighbors with 500RWHP, meth injected or not.
It definitely won't be overkill, you can never be safe enough. As long as your willing to throw the cash at it and have it tuned correctly theres nothing wrong with spraying meth on that setup. As was said before it will free up some timing for your tune. But you won't be getting 500RWHP. Especially not @ 10 PSI.

TRADE MY Mach 1 HOOD + scoop set up for easy GT install (attached, no intake system necessary, unless you want it) for a COWL hood and maybe STOCK + CASH (but probably not). The hood is painted silver, in great shape, does need a color sand, but thats no biggie. Would prefer a swap for a silver one, but will consider many options. Need to trade due to changed plan on this car. RTP/Greensboro/Charlotte

It was just a comparison, I was putting it in prospective for him.
If the 4V equivalent of your engine can't come close to 500RWHP with a pullied PD blower. How are you gonna make your 2V @ 10 PSI even close to 500rwhp?
Boost will set you free. I'd say 13-15psi should do it. As far as intercooling and meth injection, all you need is a good intercooler. I run 9psi intercooled and my engine runs cool.. I've literally never had the temperature gauge at 50%.. she always runs at about 30-40% up.
Anyways, cooling shouldn't be an issue until you're around 600rwhp (this is what I've read from MM & FF magazine)... then you'd probably need a high performance radiator.
you really wont need meth to get to 500rw... The intercooler alone will be fine.
BTW, it'll take ~ 13-14 PSI to get to 500rw. Depending on the engine setup of course. Do you have ported heads,cams,ect..?? Fuel system to support this? What about your tranny? rear end?

Keep the intercooler. You can run the methanol if you want, so have had success.........I did not. I sold mine. I bought the intercooler and it has been awesome.
