Default High RPMs shifting issues

I have an '01 GT with the stock clutch and stock 3650 in it and has about 67k miles on it. The car shifts great on regular street driving. At the track, when I try to shift into 2nd at 5500+ rpms or so and the same for 4th, it's like the shifter hits a wall and I have to wait for the rpms to drop before it goes into gear. The clutch is on the floor and my foot is off the gas when doing so. Shifting to 3rd at high rpms is hard too, but since it is an "push" shift (instead of pull towards me), I can usually force it in no problem without any grinding or anything. Just needs a little force.

Any thoughts as to what I need to look into? I'm done racing for the year and it's not my DD so I have time to start checking it out. I just want to get an idea of what the issue is and what I should look at.

Thanks!

A lot of people miss third. I have occasionally missed second (never third). I discovered that once in a while I don't pull straight back on the shifter while speed shifting but instead pull slightly toward myself. Doing that makes it hard to get into second and fourth.

I don't think it's the angle at which I'm shifting. If I am doing some spirited driving on the street, and I shift around 4500 rpms, it shifts great. I only have issues when I run the rpms up to where my peak HP is.

Its probably you getting flustered/nervous. Absent some bad noises or full time problems, its about the only cause.

TRADE MY Mach 1 HOOD + scoop set up for easy GT install (attached, no intake system necessary, unless you want it) for a COWL hood and maybe STOCK + CASH (but probably not). The hood is painted silver, in great shape, does need a color sand, but thats no biggie. Would prefer a swap for a silver one, but will consider many options. Need to trade due to changed plan on this car. RTP/Greensboro/Charlotte

Haha...I'd almost it rather be mechanical than an issue with me

I guess I will do some testing on the street where there is no tree, 60' and ET to make me nervous or jumpy!!!
