Default P1131

The other day my service engine soon light came on so i got the code read today. The code was P1131 which was:

lack of H02S1 switches-lean (Bank 1 sensor 1)

I was told this was the upstream O2 sensor. My question is can i just clean the O2 sensor or do i need to replace it? Also, could i just clear the code at O'reilly's (where i got it read)? would that fix it? Thanks in advance for your help!

Also any tips on removing the o2 sensor would be appreciated, thanks!

you cant clean an o2 sensor, if its not switching i would replace it. they pretty much just unscrew, unless there is heavy corrosion.

There are many other issues that can trigger P1131, they are the same as P1130--click here for more.

In fact it is more likely to be something other than a dead O2 sensor and may be a good O2 sensor exposing some other problem...
