i know this, will a t-56, 3650, tko 500 fit DIRECTLY into my 2000 GT. if not, what kind of modifications are necessary to make them fit? thanks guys
Has anyone reaplied to this? I have a 2000 GT, and want to upgrade the transmission before I toss the s/c in there, it's dyno'd out at 284 rwhp right now. Tremec TKO is what I was looking at. Thanks
For the TKO swap, the only think you need is a new bellhousing, but only if you get the trans with the same spline input. If you don't, you need a new clutch as well. Other than that, the TKO is a direct bolt in. On certian years, you also have to modify the transmission member. (the strap that holds the transmission to the car) but my shop was able to do it with almost no problem.

The Tremec 3650 is a POC when shifting from 2nd to 3rd at any RPM over 5K. The third gear syncronizer is weak, so has to be beefed up. The Steeda short throw helps, and the beefed up clutch does too, but the syncronizers have to be replaced on a factory 3650.
I bought an 03 GT and it came with an Automatic, and i hate it. Ive been looking on the tremec web site and reading here about the t45. Ive been looking at the 3650, TKO, and T56. Would it be possible to swap out an automatic for one of these 3 or would it just be easier to beef up the auto, to apply to more torque and hp. Ive been intereseted in the 3650 and TKO since im not sure if a 6 speed will even fit in there, what are the + and - of the 3650 since i havent seen any dirt on the TKO.
in my 96 GT, when i shift fast from 1st to 2nd it grinds (the car is warmed up), could it be my sycnro's? or could it be that my clutch wond disengauge all the way? it only happens from 1st - 2nd

The T-45 came stock in Mustangs that year, this would fit and be fine at 350HP/TQ. The T-56 is in 03-04 Cobras, it's a six speed, and bullet proof. Tremec makes both of these transmissions as well as the TR3650 in the mid 01-04 GTs.
If i wanted to get around 325 to 350HP/TQ should I seek bolt-on mods (e.g. Superchip, K&N MAF, Borla Exhuast, Cold air) for that type of performance or engine work (e.g. cam swaps, Super Charger, Heads)? Also, would this have an impact on if I should go with a T-45 or T-56?
I agree with Matts00GT. Nitrous or a blower would get you to 350 HP and torque without a single problem. With bolt-ons, and other modifications, it's possible to get there, but it is going to cost you a lot more than it would to get a supercharger, or even cheaper yet, nitrous.
I would say go with the T-56 over the T-45 and not have to worry about it in the least if you decide to get more power out of your stang later.
Okay this is really starting to help now, forums kick a$$. Anyway, if I did go with a T-56 over a T-45 would it be able to fit switching from an auto trans or would it be a relatively expensive trans swap?

Is this on a 99-04 GT? If so I doubt you'd ever get that naturally aspirated. Of course you could do that, but it would be expensive. Very expensive. It's probably possible, but I've never seen it. If you just add bolt ons and then spray youd hit the mark easily. For the price of getting 350 hp NA you could get it supercharged. Go with that.
No this is a 96 GT, so I was talking with my mechanic and he was letting me know how i should prepare the engine for the supercharger if I was going to go that route with better piston rings, adding headers, recalibrating the computer, etc. He also let me know it would be very expensive and I let him know if it was a cheaper way to get to 280-300HP I would let him know what route would i go. Thanks guys, looks like I'm gonna have to go the supercharger way. I have decided it I want NOS or not.
