I have a 03 GT, automatic. Just curious which tranny I have. I have noticed when under power, it has a really sweet shift, but when driving under normal conditions (putting around) it tends to have a "jumpy shift" in the upper gears. Is this normal?

This is gonna be trouble down the road.

This is exactly what my 1st t-45 was doing before it totally lost 3rd gear.

Also, I have no problems with the spec stage 3 on the street. I don't even notice the extra pedal effort anymore.

And the TKO-600 is stronger than the t-56. Hell, the 500 is stronger than the 56

Hey experts, I have a 2001 GT 4.6L with a 3650 5sp tranny. I want to change
the tranny oil and according to the owners manual, it calls for 8 pints of
Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. Looked around the chain-parts stores and couldn't
find Mobil 1 synthetic ATF anywhere Went to the Ford dealer and they sell
a Motorcraft synthetic ATF equivlent, which they say is required for 2001 and
2002 3650 trannys, for $20.99 a quart,,,,ouch. Should I go with the Motorcraft
ATF or is there another brand synthetic ATF that I can use that may be alittle
cheaper than $21 a quart but still a quality ATF. Thanks,,,I luv this website,,,

T-45 transmissions:

Do NOT powershift a T-45. I would also not recommend speed shifting a T-45 into 3rd gear. I have been thru 2 T-45, with the second one only lasting about a year.

These transmissions have a weak syncroniser, espcially in 3rd. My 2nd one was doomed after one speed shift into 4th that didn't quite make it. It was only a matter of time till I lost both 3rd and 4th.

I guess what I am saying is take it easy on T-45 equipped cars (I believe they are in the 01 and down??)

Also, if you do ruin your T-45, and plan on getting LT headers, just get a more reilable trans like a 3650 or a TKO. You must remove the headers to remove the trans, so you only want to do it once if at all. I learned the hard way!!!!
Crap... really ?? I've 1-2 powershifted my T45 at least 50 times in the past month. It's still OK.. same as when I bought it.. SLIGHT grind when slow shifting to 2nd.. but I got a warranty with it so I'm not trying to be too careful with it.
hey guys i know i'm new here so i will probibly get the whole ( what do you know.... your a newbie thing ) but i was actually at the track today.. and every other time they are open, and i power shift 2nd and 3rd every time i shift with nitrous and i have no probs, you just can't be doing it with the stock shifter .... and also the syncronisers are not the problem it is the shift forks , every time you miss a gear you you bend them little by little untill they no longer do their job ...

Default Fourth??

I have an '00 GT 5 Speed. I have a problem with it throwing it out of fourth when i shift normally ( by that i mean not really putting any pressure on the shifter). If i put some force behind it there is no problem. It also makes noise in first, but other than that i hear no noticable noise. And there is no grinding in anygear. I don't even have 60,000 miles on the car yet. I was told that i need to rebuilt the gear box by my father, but he is a chevy man (as was i till i bought this mustng, now i'll never go back). But i don't have a clue whats wrong, and i don't want to take it to the shop and get taken for a lot of money. Is this something i can fix in my garage, or should i take it to the show for repairs?? Any info will help, thanks.

Default RE: New Mustang Owner ? about Trans

My car is a 2000 Mustang GT with 4.10 gears, and I have a couple of questions (please bear with my nubness)

1. Specifically, what exactly is powershifting? I was told it was shifting at a "precise RPM" where you can switch gears without using the clutch, and I also heard it was just shifting really fast.

2. The other day, I was in 5th gear and I tried to drop down to 4th, missed, and dropped it to 2nd and hit the gas. It wasn't very pretty...the engine over-reved and I heard the wheels lock up for a second, not to mention the transmission made a huge grinding noise. I think it just popped right into neutral as soon as it did that, but I was very worried. I just drove it to and back form work and it seemed to be fine, but did I deal any permanent/longterm damage to the tranny?

I just thought I'd throw in my $0.02. Bought my stang the end of last summer. Shifted beautiful, 5 speed. Once it hit my driveway, the next time I Drove it it shifted like garbage into 2nd and 3rd when not completly warm. I DO NOT power shift, I floor it, let off gas, clutch, next gear, clutch gas.... it grinds 2nd whenever I try to shift quickly at all. 3rd does this sometimes too...

sooo it sits in my basement awaiting a rebuild. I don't need to be suggested to buy another trans. I can't afford it and have all the means to rebuild this one now. Ford racing clutch going in too!

I honestly have to say that the T45 transmission is a great trans for daily driving, but I can easily see it's suckage for racing. Under normal conditions its fine but the second I wanna rip ergh. w/e the car rocks either way
