Default Brake Upgrade

I'm thinking about upgrading the brakes in the near future, just curious what you guys thought of these components. All are available at Maximum Motorsports. Thanks!

The HP plus pads alone will give you a very noticeable improvement in braking, when i installed the HP plus pads on my stang, i was immediately impressed, my car could come to a dead stop before the speedometer could! So i am assuming that with the rotors and brake lines, it should be a pretty awesome brake upgrade!

I have used hawk pads and powerslot rotors before and that alone I noticed a huge diffrence in braking. You could really feel them grab.

what kind of rotors are they? just blanks or slotted or crossdrilled or what? slotted and crossdrilled together are not a very reliable choice for a dd and if you get slotted make sure the slots stop before the outside edge of the rotor. if the slots dont stop and go right throught the edge, pass those up. they will eat up your pads faster than normal

I was thinking about the same thing, well sorta. I want to Upgrade my rotors and pads. I have a cobra so the calipers are staying. I think the next thing up from those are Baer, and they are way to exotic for me. Anyway, what are some good brands to go with that have worked for you guys?

Are the stock Cobra brakes as good?

They aren't cross drilled, and the slotted function is just right. MM uses them on TONS of Mustangs, and this same setup.

If you are serious about "upgrading" your brakes then go with the Cobra setup. You get bigger calipers with dual pistons. Larger diamater rotors 13" versus the 11" that came stock on your GT. You should already be running 17" rims so you should have zero clearance problems. I recommend a Ceramic pad, and that can be purchased from almost any retailer. If you are just in it for looks, then what you are considering will work fine. The cobra upgrade will actually give you better braking ability over a longer period of time.

Me and the wife are new here, so I would like to say Hi. As far as brakes, we hare the Baer brake kit on our '01. As you know the calipers are PBR units similar to Cobra's. The difference is huge. Way more stopping power than on my '97 Cobra. Be carefil though, they will lock up, even with ABS. A great upgrade, well worth the money.

Definitely not the case, ever.

I want what works the best, which is why I was looking at HP pads. They are fantastic brakes. Although, I'm sure your right on the Cobra brakes. I just have a problem with going to OEM equipment for "upgrades". Know what I mean? Like if I wanted to upgrade I wouldn't want to go with what another Mustang has for stock parts. It's not really an upgrade...it is for a GT, but not for a Cobra.

But in any case, I think if I wanted to go better than a stock Cobra setup...it's going to be a larger conversion to something such as a BAER or Willwood big brake kit. Which at this point, is far more money than I'm willing to spend. I want functionality, but to a certain point where it's not an overly-aggressive setup for a street application. I can stand a little brake dust, but loud squealing and excessive brake dust is a bit much for a street car.

Your thoughts?
