Default 4:10 Gears ... Gas Mileage ?

So just how bad is it? I have heard how great they are for 2003 Mustang GT, but I am debating on doing this or not, depending on how economical the gas mileage decrease is.

Guess my second question would be, for the gas they suck, is it a real big difference?

Thanks

4.10's allow you to short shift into 2nd, 4th, & 5th, so as long as you are cruising, you will be fine. You can actually GAIN mpg driving like this. HOWEVER, just as an exhaust system, if you have a heavy foot, your mpg will noticeably decrease. If I am not careful now, I can watch my gauge move closer to E (my 4.10's are still in the garage, but I have a ton of other stuff). It all depends on you really.

That's about right. 4.10's will make your car really quick! So if you have a heavy foot, your gas mileage will go down faster than before.

But my mileage increased in the city when I drive normal, because it has so much more pep for the same amount of gas burnt basically. Your shift points will come faster, which is not a bad thing IMO. You'll like all the low end gains you get. The first week you get them in, you'll probably go nuts with them like I did and burn lots of gas however!

my cobra when i had 4,10s could get 175 miles in the city ,,nevr checked on highway ,,to much 3000 rpms ,,80 mph..//3,73s 3000rpms ..92 mph much better ,,i can drive over 350 miles on a tank still with 3,73,,same as 3.27s..,,also the gas light wasn't on yet ,,4,10s are going to suck the gas ,,,

4.10's are t he best, i love mine had them in there for about 3 months now and i would never go back to any other gear. Yes heavy foot, will def effect your gas consumption!!! Sometimes it takes me 1/4 tank to go home, but if i hone on her its a half a tank, and thats only 110 miles[&:]

4.10s on a Cobra would be expensive!! and then to change to 3.73's Damn that's a lot of dough. Most supercharged cars need 3.73 because they run out of gear by the end with anything taller. Plus if the gear is to big the amount of shifts can negate the benifits of a bigger gear.
I fear no gear, well anything over 4.10 that gets expensive, LOL.
