Default Stripped Plug hole

Hey guys, im new to this whole world. Just thought Id ask some people with experience. I just bought a 98 gt 4.6, its supercharged. Ihave a plug hole that was stripped out. We tried to do a "heli coil tap" sp? But it didnt work. What do you suggest I do, replace the head or have the head machined and redrilled? What caused this to happen? Will it just happen again to the new head? Please help.....Im lost.

Hmmm... you know which is cheaper. Let your money decide. If money isn't a big worry...how about different heads?

money is the main factor. Do you forsee any problems with redrilling the hole? Would it just blow it back out? Thanks for the reply. Please help

Uh......I think you learned your lesson NOT TO CROSS THREAD, EVER!!!

Next time, try this:
Get a section of rubber vacume hose, and put the spark plug in one end. Put the spark plug in it's hole and start to screw it in BY HAND using the vacume hose that's over it. If you cross threaded it, the hose will slip, saving you one hell of a costly repair.

I personally just use my hand on an extention with a spark plug socket on the end. Ain't no way in hell that's gonna strip the threads unless I try......

This was caused by overtorqueing.

You or a previous owner over tightened them and if you dont do it again and use some anti seize then you will be ok.The bitch of it is in order to properly drill it out you need to take the head off.

And yes you must make sure that you are able to by hand tighten these up with no resistance.Thats where the anti seize comes in and same thing after you break one loose it should come out easily by hand.

Good luck sorry to hear it.
