2001 GT vs. 1999 Cobra
I Not too long ago got a 2001 GT (auto) which is stock at the moment, besides K&N and a few other little things, and i was wondering how i would hold against my friends stock 1999 cobra (manual) at the track this summer. By time summer comes along i will hopefully have a new set of radials also. Thanks.

If you can really drive and providing conditions are right, you could click off a 13.9. But you can expect 14.5 atleast if you can even moderately drive.
It's a tough question to answer. It's well known a 5 speed 99+ GT can match a 99 Cobra...go to the track and see!!

What he said. You shoulda bought a manual[8D]. I've dibs on the Cobra if he can drive. If you had a manual...I'd go for you, auto Stangs sucks until you dump tons of cash into them.

It's a drivers race. I have very little respect for 99, 01-02 Cobras they are way over priced and underpowered. With that auto stang you can pull off 14 flat and believe me that cobra won't get much more than that. The best he can hope for is 13.9 if he's a really good driver. So race him...I promise you this..."It will be so close that he won't wanna run you again if he does manage to beat you".

Guess so. I didn't keep up with new Mustangs for a long time, I had 64.5 vert and was all over the old ones. Just recently got back in the rat race. Good info though for when I go shopping for my Cobra. <grin>

The 99 cobra's were under the horsepower, but they got recalled. This allowed them to get back to 320 at the flywheel, about 272 to the rear. In my opinion the cobra should win if he got the fix, which most of them did. If you really wana beat him change the gears to 3:73, get full exhaust, a chip and maybe some pulleys and you should beat him. Your stock stang has about 230 to the rear compared to the 272 the cobra has. If you do those upgrades you should be right with him, maybe ahead.
