Default 'Sticky' gears

Reverse pops out often, and never seems to glide in well. If it doesn't go into gear, I have to put it in 1st nudge forward ever so slightly and then try again. It usually does the trick, but I shouldn't have to do that. It isn't only reverse that does it. 3rd gear is a big problem as well sometimes I'll have to do an unwanted speed shift and bipass using 3rd gear alltogether. It almost feels like it won't go into gear because it isn't alligned properly or something. Is it a possibility to have like small chunks of metal floating around and getting in the way in there? I know it's probably time for a new clutch. As far as I know it is the original and I have 98000 miles on it. If I do replace it are there any upgrades that anyone suggests that won't kill the pocketbook? I'm just a poor college student here

try a good trans fluid change but it sounds like your trans has been beat on. i just rebuilt my T45 for 2nd and 3rd gear grinding. New synchros cleared that right up. Usually popping out of gear comes from a bad synchro hub

Thanks. I guess since it has to do with the inner workings of the transmission, maybe I should bring it in. I just don't have the money that's all. thanks though, I'll try to check that.

Well one of the recalls on the trans is reverse popping out/ hard to get into gear.

that's for the 3650. our cars aren't new enough to have trans work recalls actually be free at this point.

Welcome to the t-45! You have a clunky transmission!

Its always a good idea to go to 1st before trying reverse unless you are on completely level ground. Make it a habit.

Mine never popped out of reverse, but I was having an issue going from 2nd to 3rd.

Changing the fluid in mine made a HUGE difference.

Also, an aftermarket shifter that centers on 3rd and 4th will really help you deal with that transmission.

To me, the stock shifter was vague, like driving a tractor.

so the recall thing is that for 1998 gt? Also, is it easy or hard to change out your tranny fluid? i don't know anything about it. maybe i should just go get it changed.
