It's not hard to shift a 13-14 second car by ear, but when you run through the gears FAST a shift light is extremely helpful... It's hard to watch the tach if the car is red lining before you can get the pedal to the floor in first gear... Plus you are watching for so many other things when you run fast cars, it's hard to pay attention to everything that's going on....
