Whenever there is enough rust to see on the surface on the car, there is always more hidden spots with nasty rust. I'd get the car up in the air, pull the carpet up in the trunk/etc to make sure you aren't buying yourself someones rusted out winter beater.

exactly. Tell them you want a weekend long test drive. Take it to your mechanic and have him lift it up and check things over.

yeah im sure this place wont do that they sell there cars as is even though the mainly sell mercedes and bmws'

i did look underneath the car the only thing that looked rusty was the exhausr which i figured from the heat and possibly the salt from the winters up there would cause that

but i do want to get it in the air

This sounds a litle fishy to me. Most dealers should let you take a car to get it checked if you are seriously interested in buying it. Sounds like they may have something to hide. But if Carfax came back clean...I dunno. Buyer beware.

Carfax it, i heard there is a way to check for flood damage, i found it kind of weird but the article said take your hand and check under your gauges for sand or other materials.check by the hood release button.

The easiest way I have found is to feel under the seats. If the wire springs feel rough and rusty it more than likely has been in water.
