Default Windage Tray

Do these really work? I found a site that said you can gain 12rwhp.

A windage tray is a tray that sits in between your oil pan and your crank. It attaches to the mainbolts and protects the crank from oil splashing onto the crank when you hit the gas. I have one but I couldn't tell you if it actually does anything because I added everything on my car at once so I wouldn't be able to tell. But I have a friend with a 351W who put one on and he said it made a difference big time.

windage trays are usually either found in the oil pan as in alot of older chevys or bolted on to the main caps and keep the oil from slinging onto the crankshaft, also eliminating any foaming of the oil from slinging around. Can they pick up signifigant HP? Most definately. On my 500 inch big blocks they are mandatory, the big blocks arent the greatest of oiling systems to begin with so when you can control the oil movement and kkep it in the sump instead of slinging around the crank, it helps tremendously

Well, I thought that oil was supposed to be on your crank? What would it matter if it splashed up? If it is such a bad thing why does it sit right above the oil pan? Just don't know, not trying to ba smart ***.

Oil on the exterior of the crank does nothing for lubrication and high rpm applications such as when we ran 351 clevelands to 9000 rpm will foam oil real quickly when its slinging around the crank, it robs horsepower. On a bone stock motor, the gains are almost non existent in the short term, but in the long term it will contribute to prolonged bearing life by keeping an adequate amount of oil in the oil pan sump were its supposed to be instead of riding around on the exterior of the crank
