Traction Control

Traction Control
I HATE how my traction control always comes on when I start my car. I always forget to turn it off and it kills the car pretty much if I even spin a bit. Is there any way to turn it off without getting a 400 dollar tuner?

Replace the push-button dash switch with a toggle switch. Don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. Then just leave it in the off position.

RE: Traction Control
Ah, thanks.
Hmmm... The push-button is a normally-closed switch, meaning the Traction Control is on at default. Pushing the button opens the switch, deactivating the Traction Control System.
So, purchasing a normally closed switch would work the same way. Toggle it to the off position, and Traction Control is off. Buy a normally open switch and it will be backwards.
Ok...with that in mind.
Wouldn't it be possible to take the switch that's currently in there and wire it backwards so the normally closed switch is normally off and pushing it turns it on?
That should work too, or do I have it backwards?

RE: Traction Control
I always assumed it wasn't open. Thats how most push buttons are, but I dont really know. I have a bunch of switches in my car. I love electrical stuff and have always thought about re-wiring the switch, but I have never gotten to it. That might be a summer project.

RE: Traction Control
Yeah, I'm not sure if it's open or closed. You can buy either one from a radioshack or any small electronics parts store. But as far as the stock switch is concerned, whatever position is normal for it...just switch the wires and it should work just fine. Only backwards to normal operation.
I hear you on the electronics stuff, I have a degree in Electronics Engineering.

RE: Traction Control
Hey, you electrical geniuses should help me with my electrical issue
I swapped to a 99 cobra instrument cluster, in that year, the rear defroster button was up near the instrument cluster... in my year it is down in the center.
Since I've put it in, my rear defroster is always on (I fixed this by pulling the fuse in the engine bay). As soon as I put that fuse back in, the rear defroster comes on, whether the stang is on or not... the light will be on, too.
Now if that wasn't bad enough, regardless of if the fuse for the rear defroster in the engine bay is in or not, if you push the rear defroster button, it blows a fuse inside... I'm not positive which one, but one of the things it powers is the A/C compressor clutch.
Figure this one out If you guys know where a wiring diagram for a 99 stang, and an 04 could be found, I could probably fix it myself... might you know where I could find some diagrams? Or even how to fix this?
Edit: On topic to the thread:
The switch isn't mechanical if I'm not mistaken... I'm not electrically inclined, so I can't call things by the proper name, but when you push the switch it just activates a circuit momentarily, as soon as you release, the circuit is broken, then the ECU toggles the traction control on/off... the rear defroster button is like this too (it was probably a mechanical on/off on the 99 stangs, where it would click in to complete the circuit... but if that's the case, wouldn't my rear defroster not work at all instead of always be on?)

RE: Traction Control
Ah, it's a momentary on/off switch?
Well that complicates things and might explain why there isn't a "how-to" already posted for it. [&:]
I've never seen the wiring diagram or know where to find one, I was only speculating. It should be fairly easy to fix IF you can find a wiring diagram...but I don't even know where to begin to look for one on a vehicle.
I don't think the Haynes repair manual I have includes any electrical diagrams either, I think it's all mechanical. If you find something, PM me and let me know.
