Just would like to talk to someone about my 1997 GT
I would like some information to find out if people with the same year of car as mine are having the same problems. I have a 1997 GT, Five speed, fully loaded. Has 91,000 miles on it and already replaced the AC compressor, the clutch, the emergency brake assembly, and having electrical problems with the windows, help I think I am sinking money into this thing and it is never going to get better, I am the third owner of this car. And I think all my problems are becuase of bad maintence of this car. I also have a power steering leak, and Front main leak, nothing serious, but I should not be have this many problems with it.

I have a '97 GT. Bought it at 72,000 miles. Had the intake manifold replaced under fords extended warranty.
No power anything except for mirrors.
The transmission grinds everytime it goes into fifth.
The check engine light is on and off way too much and always puts out a evaporative emissions code.
It now has 95,000 miles on it.
When I got it , it looked very well taken care of and I changed the fluids.
It runs great and has no serious problems. No problems I can't deal with or fix easy later anyway.

Im not big on buying used sports cars anyways so my opinion is a little biased. There is no telling what the other two owners put that car through so there is no telling what will be wrong with it. I bought a used one only after about a year of research while I was in Iraq and had nothing better to do but dodge mortors and rockets. lol.

I have a '96 GT 5-speed which is basically the same thing as a '97, with about 75,000 miles. The only part which is wearing out is the clutch. It loses a little bit of oil but nothing major. Probably due to the seals. The water pump is squealing in the mornings, but that's an easy replacement. Other than that, the engine runs like a champ, and the rest of the car seems to be in great shape.

The problem is with any sports car, chances are it was beat and ragged on. Nobody take this as an insult, but it happens.
If you expect to buy a Mustang and not dump loads of cash into it, or any other v8 performance car for that matter...you shouldn't of bought it in the first place.
Unfortunetly, fixing a car, part by part while it is your daily driver isn't exactly the way to do it. If you really wanted a dependable Mustang, the best thing to do is park it, pull the motor, rebuild it & replace all the sensors, do the tranny & rear.

When you buy a used sports car, you don't know where it has been and what has been done with it. I personally would only buy a used car from someone in my family or one of my close friends, so I knew who had and what was done with it. Sorry to hear about the probs you are having w/your 97 GT.
