Default 4.6 vs 5.0

Leaning toward a 4.6 GT, curious, I know the 4.6 has more HP, how about tourque? 2000 GT's have 260 horse, correct?? How about the 5.0's in their last years, 225? Which is more powerful?

Also, if I go with a 4.6, say a 98 - 00, what type of exh system are most people going with to get a nice deep sound and more power? I drove a 00 GT 5 spd for the weekend (I'm a dealer) and it has Flowmasters on it, sounds good but would like a bit louder...

Thanks,

Im personally particular to 5.0's.

It comes down to what youre going to do with it.You planning a ****load of mods?If so the 5.0 market is overwhelming!

Where as the 4.6 isnt as vast as the 5.0.

I personally like the 5.0's but others like the 4.6.

Comes down to you man.

Well you deffinatly don't want a 98. Underpowered motors only but 180ish to the ground. 99+ stangs is where you want to be 260fwhp, putting 225ish to the ground. 5.0 are nice motors and can be built fairly cheap to go fast, 4.6 are a little harder to do. I like the 4.6, you start with more power and I am willing to shell a little more into the car to make it fast.

As far as exhaust goes, if you plan on redoing everything I recomend LT headers, O/R X-pipe and magnaflows maganpack system. That will make for one loud car. I currently run a catted magnaflow X-pipe and magnapac system. Quiet when you want it loud when you want it. It doesn't have the drone inside the car like baffled mufflers are known for, IE Flomaster, Spintech, MAC,....

Give a listen to my SIG. I like magnaflow way better than Flowmaster. You will have to forgive the clip haven't made a new one, It crackels the mic and it is over 5ft away from the car. 95+dB is louder than I thought!

5.0's have more down low, 4.6's have a nice power band between about 2500-5500. Like was said before the 5.0 aftermarket is frikkin' huge so if you want a wide variety of choices at low prices go with a 5.0. Also fox Mustangs can be had for a lot less than a newer GT, so buy a 5.0 and spend that extra money on mods and whip some 4.6 booty. I'm not ******* the 4.6 at all because I have one and it's a great engine, it's just expensive to upgrade. It all depends on what body style you like and how much you want to spend.

I'm partial to the 5.0's, as said above they're a lot easier and cheaper to upgrade, there's so many parts out there for them. Plus you can get a fox for a lot less then the SN95 style or newer.

If your going for body style..then you must pick the 99+ ..as far as mods...hang in there theres plenty of mods on there way and regardless of what others may think..LOOKS ARE EVERYTHING!

I'd def have to disagree, looks are important but I'm a power guy myself. I want something that will lay down a strip a mile long, not sit on a trailer shinning and all you do is look at it. Plus looks are just a preference thing, some people love the foxes, others aren't too impressed. It's all up to you and your car.
