Whats with all the 5.4L posts?

RE: Whats with all the 5.4L posts?
Sorry about bringing up old topics, but I was wondering about this too. If the 5.4 is limited by the heads (as the 4.6), then what about the Navigator? 4v's? Second, what about the new 3v's? I've been thinking about either 4.6 3v, or 5.4 Xv swap, although not in the near future. From the reading i've been doing, the 5.4 is capable of 400+ rwhp N/A. I would really prefer a N/A setup, but N/A, power, and cheap don't seem to go in the same sentence. Could 350 rwhp, give or take, be reasonably achieved from the any of the 5.4's or would a 3v 4.6 suffice?
Sorry about all that mess, it just seems there has to be a reasonable alternative to FI.
BTW Dark Horse, you swap is just pure hotness. Love the paint scheme.

I believe the 99-04 Navigators had the dohc 4v 5.4
How many parts would be swappalbe from the 4.6. I assume cams would be since the heads are the same. Anything that you would be stuck with stock?

well I found a complete set up for like 3700 (out of a wrecked car) I'd probably go that route but then there's a new tranny blah blah blah

How do the lightning blocks withstand so much power then? I have always heard that the rods will go before the crank? Maybe this is wrong?
Whats the limit of a 5.4 shortblock? Thats really all I was asking. Could I make more power with my current setup without breaking something?
Making more power (heads etc) is not the problem. I can always turn up the boost, but the stock 4.6 shortblock won't take it.

most 5.4 cranks are forged stock. (mine is) the rods and pistons arn't. i ma 99.9% sure that lightnings are not forged pistons and rods. ya it would make a great swap.
you could always get a 5.4 and put a lightning blower on it (8 psi) (or a harley pully 6 Psi)

How can the lightning motor be exactly the same? If it is, then all 5.4L engines have a forged rotating assembly?
I know ford isn't sending out lightnings making 400+ WHP stock and 500+ WHP with boltons if it has a cast crank/rods/pistons rotating assembly, it simply would not survive.
I was really hoping that the regular truck/suv engines had a forged assembly. That would make it a great swap, as you could get more RWHP out of the factory shortblock (instead of going with a 2000 + dollar aftermarket kit)

lightning motor s are EXACTLY the same. excpet that the pistons are dished more so the c/r is 8.5:1 where a regular 5.4 is 9.5:1. the cams, heads, rods, cranks, blocks, all the same. the 4.6 heads are the same as 5.4. the will bolt up. the only difrence is that some 4.6 heads and all 5.4 heads require 18(i think its 18 im not sure, but its alot.) bolt valve covers where some 4.6s use 18(i think its 18 im not sure) bolt or some 4.6 heads use fewer also like 13 or something. a PI 4.6 VS a PI 5.4 the 5.4 will make i think 10 more hp but like 60FT-Tq. the real main problem is that the 5.4 & 4.6 use the same heads. and the PI heads barly flow enuf air for a 4.6. so trying to flow 18% more air with un ported heads and stock cams really lower the 5.4's HP.
now if any one is intrested in my 5.4 swap look at my cardomain. its all listed there
a PI 5.4 will make alot more power with some good cams and a diffrent intake manifold (stock 5.4 runners are way to long to make hp up high).
