Default 03 cobra motor swap worth the money? READ.

So I want to go fast but I dont know what route to take. Nitrous? Supercharger? heads & cam? stroker motor? what about an 03 cobra motor swap? [sm=smiley29.gif]

Primary goal is to have a very streetable FAST car (would want to stay away from camshafts - dont want shakiness and hate lobey exhaust sounds). I would like to beat 2002+ Z06s, and maybe even 03 Viper SRTs FROM A ROLL in a street race (you know... the regular 2nd gear roll to end of fourth). From a quarter mile performance view I want to run 11s with nitto drag radials. I DONT want to have a quick car running 11s @ 110mph on a 1.3 60 ft. No! I want to run somewhere hopefully in the mid 11s @ 120+mph on a (1.7-1.9) 60 ft. As far as gear ratios 3:73s are the highest ill want to go.

So I was thinking maybe I should buy a used 03 cobra motor and do a complete engine swap? Anyone have info on this? Any pros and cons? Suggestions? Opinions? Advice? Recommendations?

As far as I know, the 03 cobra comes with a t56 6spd tranny. Are those trannies way better than the regular GTs? I think the GT tranny should work with an 03 cobra motor though. Maybe I should just put 3:73s on my tranny and it would do just as good?

I am still VERY far behind knowing the exact *stuff* ill need to do the swap [sm=smiley29.gif].

The reason I really looked into the cobra 03 motor setup is because I've seen many run 11s with just a pulley, intake, exhaust, and *sometimes* a chip and dyno 450+rwhp SAE #s. Thats the kind of performance im looking for [sm=smiley20.gif]. They also have MUCH more room for improvement but running 11s should definetly do it for me.

SO should I spend my money on modding this motor? or am I better off doing the swap?

Keep in mind the GT motor will be sold and that money should cut the costs down during the swap..

I would be SUPER interested to hear from anyone who have done an 03 cobra conversion. I heard it should cost around $5000 for all the parts installed and everything. I dont think I should be terribly worried about the miles on the motor since they barely came out in 2003.

Please help I dont have anyone else to ask.

I bet that many have thought about this while some have already been there and done that. Lets make this one long useful post for the followers. [sm=smiley14.gif]

My very humble opinion, would be to get a good supercharger for around $3500, and then spend about $500 on a nitrous set up and use the rest for other bolt ons that should put you in the 11s especially if you've got a full exhaust set up ie. LT's, decent X or H and high flow cat-back (if not it will run you in the range of $1000 to $1300)...as long as you don't go too much over 450hp your stock internals and tranny should handle it.

sure he could, there is no reason he couldnt. but on his stock gt motor, the most he could safely do is prob 3-4 psi and a 50 shot at the most. the cobra motor is a great idea. if it can be done for 5k, do it. but keep in mind, your gt tranny wont last to long will all the torque.
cobra motor, ecu,
wiring harness,
and all other accesories- $5000
long tube headers, off road pipe $800
catback $360
pulley $80
intake $150
chip and tune $400
total=$6790
now youve got 470rwhp and will run 11's all day with drag radials

complete 03 cobra motor for only 5k?????????? I thought they were like 11k???? I've seen them brand new for 11k. if you can really get it that cheap I think it would be a good idea! and you would have to get the t56 there is no way the stock gt tranny would hold up to that power, besides why wouldnt you want the t56??!!
