Default Intake manifolds, aluminum or plastic

I know it's been discussed before but, for instance, the typhoon intake is aluminum, looks alot like a stocker, yet is claimed to produce 20HP more than a stocker. Are the runners larger than a stocker? Is the intake extrude honed, or cast in lost wax to provide a smooth surface inside? What I'm driving at is, a plastic intake can be made cheaper, insulates better against heat soak than aluminum, and already has smooth surfaces inside the runners. I'm not comparing to the P-51 intake which is radically different in design, but if you were sticking to NA, wo nitrous, couldn't a plastic intake reconfigured yield even more HP?

The situation is that the stock manifold is already a very good one. It makes power all the way thru the band that the stock shortbock can handle.

Unless you plan on building the motor and the shortblock, or you have a blower/turbo car, you will not see large gains by switching out to a aftermarket intake manifold, and you will almost certainly loose power on the bottom end of the curve.
