Default Slight Knock

Hey guys i had a quick question i just bought a second car, its a 03 mustang gt 5 speed, so i when i picked it up from the guy i bought it from, it just so happen to need a oil change...so on my other mutsang i used mobil 1 synthetic 5W-20 and its runs good, but this new car i put it in and i noticed a very slit knock after it sits and the oil drains and when i start it from a cold start. SO if u have any ideas of y it has a slight knock, could it be the oil??? b/c i believe the guy before me used regualr oil not synthetic, would that have anyhting to do with it? Plus if i did have to change back to regualr oil is it alright since i just put in synthetic, cause i heard u change back to regualr oil once u change to synthetic...? THANX ALOT!

might have something to do with it. It may have some carbon buildup too

Could be lifters...I have a sticky one in my cobra and it drives me nuts. just when its cold it knocks, stops after 5-10 minutes. I tried a quart of atf in place of a quart of oil..no go...this oil change I used a quart of slick 50 and it didnt help either. Unless it gets worse I am not going to pull it down, as it is a DOHC and requires me to yank the engine.

I have a 2004 Gt with the same problem. There is a slight tic tic tic only on the first start of the day. The tics diminish after 2-4 minutes. I took it to the dealer but of course they did not hear anything. Does it have to do with a dry upper valve train? I'm running 5w30 mobil 1. Would switching back to 5w20 fix the problem? Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

The previous owner might have used a different weight of oil.You have to remember that 5w-20 is very thin oil.If he was running 10w-30 or 10w-40 they are much thicker oils.somtimes a thicker oil can stretch or warp rings and valve seals.some times (rarely) It can effect oil pressure too.Try a differnt weight of oil.The valve tapping in the morning is a sign of the valve starting to go out of adjustment or the not enough oil is getting up in to the heads fast enoigh.I had a chevy 305 v8 that used to do this and the way I got rid of it was to drop the oil pan and clean out the screen. then I used some engine flush and droped the pan again. You will be amazed at how much crap your engin creates in 20-30 thousand miles.Hope this helps
