Default 4.6 to 5.0 carb swap?

Hey guys and girls. New to the board and I have a question that I was directed to post in this section.

I am a Camaro owner and have no real experience with 4.6l engines. I have the chance to do a mild build-up on a 1998 GT m5. My gf seized the motor on her pony. She was gonna sell it, but I decided to keep it. Rebuilding the 4.6 is out of the question due to financial reasons. However, dropping in 5.0 carb set-up is much more reasonable from the research I have done. Anyone here done this , any advice on retrofiting this motor into the car. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Id imagine you can use the mounts out of a 94/95 GT (they had 5.0's), youll also probably need the distributor off of 94/95, if not the underhood wiring harnesses to plug the disty up. If theyre setup similar to the fox's youll also need the throttle cable from an 85GT 5-spd. they had carbs. The 85GT autos had CFI so i think itll be too long. Youll also need the radiator out of the 94/95 GT unless the 98's is the same. It shouldnt be that hard at all.

if you go carb you will never pass emissions just fyi, but if your state doesnt have it youre all set. i looked into the swap a while back, you need a lot of things i believe you need a new tranny also, the 5.0s use the t5. id honestly go with a used 4.6 for 500-1000$ and drop that in there. it will be easier, alot easier. putting a 4.6 in there would cost a lot less too. putting a 5.0 in your car will just be a lot of work, and twice the cost.

+1

you will never save money doing the 5.0 swap unless all of the parts are for free.
