I woudn't force any car into reverse, in time, you will break a shift fork. Reverse is the only gear in any tranny that is a straight cut spur gear. Straight cut gears when lined up tooth to tooth will not shift. You can let your clutch up, and spin the shaft, and try again or as suggested shift into another forward gear to accomplish the same. If it Grinds going into reverse frequently, you may have a dragging clutch that needs replacement. The degree of what you are experiencing IS NOT NORMAL, I have 2 mustangs with 3650's and NO problems shifting to reverse.
