my best guess is that your friends suck at racing... yep, I mean you say you would know if anything was done externally right... so that leaves cams, which you would hear, maybe a stroker kit, but i seriously doubt it, gears maybe, maybe not, a chip wouldn't help all that much. so what does that leave... some boost that you can't seem to find... i mean seriously

Your best bet would be to post a picture of your engine. I am not trying to insult your intelligence but you seem to be somewhat new to stangs. I would say that you may have a PI swap done which really isnt gonna jump out at you if you dont know what to look for. Gears would also be an option. Even so, that prob. is not enough to run with a modded LT1.

oh and its a 98 and it got recalled so they put a 02 gt intake manifold on it, and it came with a short throw shifter and i have a racing clutch kit from summit sitting in my garage since my throwout bearing is going out. thats all that they told me is done to it. also i talked to a few people from the dealership, they told me that it was actually from this guy that owned a racing shop in phoenix so i dunno........

I know thats the stock TB/Plenum, Air Intake. That looks like a regular non-pi intake manifold because of the 2nd coolant sensor, but ya never know. I honestly think it may be your friends driving. I have a buddy with a 99 Z28 with 4.11 gears, cams, full exhaust, and D/R. I can stay relatively close to him in a 1/4 mile run, and all he runs with all of that work is a 13.9. I'd say you have the driver mod working in your corner for ya.

you have a buddy with a 99 LS1 Z28 with all that work and he only runs 13.90s? He needs to sell the car and buy a yugo. No wonder you are thinking the older 350s are so much better.

A stock LS1 car, even with a 2.73 rear gear and an auto, should at least run a 13.50~ bone stock. A cam'd/exhaust LS1 car should make 380 + WHP. 98LS1 is running in the ELEVENS with just boltons and a cam, and he doesn't have a n/a tune (just a nitrous tune, running 11s on it n/a)

There is just no chance a NPI car without MAJOR work is gonna run with a cam'd/headwork LT1, and forget running with a camm'd/exhaust/bolton LS1 car either.

I dunno who/what you guys are racing and running into, but even my grandma would wax a NPI (or hell PI) car with just boltons in a cam'd LS1 or cam'd/headwork LT1.

At full boltons, with 3.73s and VT stage 2 cams, I was having a hard time putting away stock 6spd LS1 cars from a roll. That was with 280~ WHP, and me raping the car.
