I have been having this noise for the past 25,000 mi and I had no idea what it could be. I took it to a few shops - they had no idea. Finally I bit the bullet and went to Ford. As it turned out I had - "Diff damper loose - tighten and lube rear suspension".

Where is the diff damper located? What parts of the rear should be lubed?

I thought that was the quad shock, or am I wrong?

when i bought it at autozone it was called an axel dampener..thats the only thing i could think of when you said diff dampener.unless they are talking about you upper control arms
