Default 2004 GT oil/filter?

My GF's 2004 Mustang GT (4.6L 2V 260hp of course) needs an oil change and she doesn't have the owner's manual. What is the oil capacity on this engine (some people tell me 5 and others say 6 quarts)? What grade should I get? This is a So Cal car, so it doesn't get too cold. I think ford recommends 5w-20, but a lot of people seem to like 10w-30. Also, what is a good brand of filter? I have heard some bad stuff about napa and fram filters lately. Thanks in advance.

Edit: it has 25k miles

I use 5W-30 Royal Purple ( 6 Quarts including Filter) and a Motorcraft FL-820S Oil Filter.

Use a Wix or Motorcraft filter.

Bottom line

6 quarts for oil and filter of your choice of oils in 5w20 viscosity. Those are the facts.

you know they can't make 5w20 non synthetic.

It HAS to be at least a synthetic blend... that's why they always ask you if the car takes 5w20...

but mobil 1 is some good shizz

hows the castrol treating you? Im tempted to switch to it when I get my car back (or valvoline). Mobile 1 and royal purple are too expensive. Ive been running valvoline in my maxima which is also inexpensive. I beat that car harder than a red headed step child and I have no issues.

Anyone have any horror stories about a particular brand of oil?
