Missing 3rd

RE: Missing 3rd
heres a simple, dumb tip which i will share only because my knowledge is otherwise limited to "get a new shifter!": practice shifting. don't rush and try to "throw" it into gear; do it a little bit slower but deliberately into the gate; and keep practicing until u get faster. the #1 reason for missed shifts is trying to be too quick. the other is that somethings wrong with ur cable or whatnot; refer to more knowledgeable posts

I have the same problem, third jams up on me. In fact I lost a race because of it tonight. I am having a new clutch cable and quadrant replaced tomorrow. I got an all metal one, the stock one is plastic and crappy.

That'd be the best advice, practice. [sm=exactly.gif]
I still run a stock shifter and have never missed a shift. Same goes for the '71 with its stock Hurst shifter. The biggest problem is tensing up too much while you're trying to shift. Once you learn to react, your ET's will go way down. Watch the NASCAR guys on a road course some time. Like a machine... [sm=gears.gif]

RE: Missing 3rd
i had the roush shifter before and its the same thing as the triax. i have since changed it to the mgw and its the best change ive made. i also bought the upr quadrant kit with the cable and firewall adjuster and it was crap. i snapped the cable after about a month. the spacers that came with it had to be cut in half to make the quadrant work and the firewall adjuster sucked. i left the quadrant on there and went to a stock cable and now the clutch is like butter. soo smooth, before it was extremely hard then would loosen up.
