Default GT stang general question

ok i am in the market for a mustang. the more research i do the more confused i get. here is my question. which is a better mustang to start with? 99-04 V6, 96-98GT, or 99-04 GT. i noticed the 96-98 GT have the same 4.6L engine the 99-04GT, but i noticed that the 99-04 had a lot more HP and didnt know why. but anyways my budget is $12,000 and i do plan on doing a considerable amount of modding. just trying to find out which stang would be the best to start out with. thanks

go with a 99-04 GT, you could definately find a decent one for 12k. The difference between the newer GTs are the heads and cams. FYI

you can certainly get a 99-04. not much mechanical diff. between them. They changed tranny and some other stuff mid-01 or 02 (not 100% on exactly when it happened), I'd say get a late model 02-04 if you can find one.

You would be pretty lucky to find one for 12K. Don't hold your breath though. Find a nice 02-04.

You'll find like an 00-02 gt with under 50k on the clock for around 12k, I'd suggest getting one of those. I think the bullits may be out of your price range. I wouldn't mod a bullit anyways.
