Sorry kids, it's bigger than you think. The ford web page says the mustang has a 28.5 gal tank, this is incorrect, that would be a typo. If you still have your window sticker I believe it's 15.7 gallons.

My window sticker says nothing about the fuel tank.

On my 96 Ranger, I've gone where the needle was right on the E mark. I've gone where it went below that. I've even seen a gap between the needle and the E mark, meaning the needle was past the E.

I'm not sure how far I can go on the 04 Mustang. I'm not planning on trying, but it would be nice to know how much farther I can go so I can decide if I'll stop at the scary run-down gas station right here, or drive a few more miles to get to a better gas station.

I normally gas up somewhere between 1/4 and E. But sometimes, you just don't notice it.

There's a "low fuel" light in my car? Oh...never came on...I try and keep it over half a tank and never below 1/4. I ran out of gass one to many times in my old work truck...now I'm more careful.

I can get about 23-miles when the low fuel light comes on. I really don't think mustangs are that bad on gas, as long as you use the recommended shift speeds in the owners manual. I hope that makes sense.
