i dont know why you guys think it is such a drastic gear...

i'll find out what 1st does in my car on my way to school this morning, then report back in a couple hours..

i wouldnt be surprised at all to see 5800 approaching as i near 25 mph

Let me start t off by saying that I shift by the sound of the engine, not by the tech. So when I went out this morning with the only purpose being to watch at what rpm I shifted at this is what I found:

1st gear - 40mph at 5 grand

4th gear - between 35 / 40 grand

5th the rpm's drop to around 2500

Thanks to all who shared info.

That would be a big 10-4.[[X(]] I realized this morning that I have never hammered it in first. Just when the engine starts to get loud I've all ways shifted into 2nd not really paying attention to the rpm gauge.... that was until this morning.

40 mph at 5k rpm is more like a 2.78 gear set, assuming 25.6" tall tires and a 3650 tranny with a 3.38:1 first gear. No wonder OD is useless.[sm=smiley13.gif]

How do you know if you've got a wide or standard 4R70W?

Let me start t off by saying that I shift by the sound of the engine, not by the tech. So when I went out this morning with the only purpose being to watch at what rpm I shifted at this is what I found:

4th gear - between 35 / 40 grand

Thanks to all who shared info.

you need to learn to drive your car before you get smoked by a civic. shift at 6k.
