40thgtfl I know how to drive, come thru the "city of brotherly luv " and find out for yourself. What do you think is the reason I don't know how to drive my car? Because I shift by sound instead of watching the tach. wtf?! Like I've said before I've had the car for about 4 weeks now and haven't had the pleasure or opportunity to be engaged in a race. I can see shifting in the high 5's for race purposes but not under normal driving conditions.

the calculator says my 1st gear will run to like 55 mph....but it wont...it runs to right around 40mph. 2nd goes to around 70, 3rd tops at 112, 4th top some around 140-ish it hink, cause i shifted from 4th-5th at around 140 one time...

and according to that calculator, if the speed limiter wasnt on my car, it would run up to about 182-183 mph in 5th.

Max hp and torq is not at 6k......why let the car redline before shifting unles you have some mods. I shift no more than between5700 and 5800. I have had my car for 3 1/2 years and do some autocrossing and drag racing. I usually don't look at the tak, I just listen and feel and enjoy. I beat an 03 GT 5spd in the 1/4 by 1 second. He waits until redline to shift.

i never said i wait until redline when i race. I jsut took it out and redlined every gear just to see what it would do...

I ususally shift around like 6k. But that is still prolly too high.

You should not be so worried about the peak, this is a common misconception.

What you need to worry about is keeping the car in the power curve. This does not only apply to the top of each gear, but also what RPM the car goes to in the start of the next gear. By shifting at a higher RPM you enter the next gear in a higher RPM.

All you have to figure out is what gives you more power under the curve. I would think on even a stock GT you should shift right at redline, to keep the RPM up on the next shift. When my car was stock, the power curve did fall off before redline, but if I shifted where the car made peak power, it would fall out of the power curve. Just because it was past peak doesn't mean it still not making more power at say 5900 compared to 4200 etc.

The torque is kinda a moot point, at least it was for me, because the power curve (n/a) was very flat.

Edit: If you want a longer first gear, get a TKO. The 600 has a much longer 1st compared to the other 45 and 3650. Unfortunatly, I do not think a stock or bolton 4.6 will have enough power to launch well with that long of a 1st gear.
