Default Comp or Vt cam

Hello,
I am looking to step up from my stock cam to either a comp or vt cam. I am looking at the comp 102100 or the vt stage 1 which does not seem to extreme considering I live in california with the tough emission laws. Does anyone have experience with either of these and was there a difference after it was added?? The other question I have is will these work ok with stock springs, etc.??Thanks all

i have vt stage 1s, no valve springs needed. I installed the cams the same time as my headers and picked up 45whp.

I have had both and both gained good HP but the VT's are a little more user friendly. You can get away with a basic install with VT cams as apposed to Comps since most of them have advanced timing ground in and can cause PTV if not properly degreed in.

you can do it 2 ways. Remove the timing cover and retime everything...this is the long was but propper way. Or you can use the Aderson Ford Cam install tool and just remove the valve covers and slide them in. I would not do it this way with Comp cams but many have done this with VT st 1's.

are you a technician? Or just a very skilled hobbiest? I could do a lot more work on my car, but don't have the time, tools or location. The skill is there but that's 1/2 the battle

I dynoed at 275rwhp and 308wtq when i had the VTstage1 cams and shorty headers. I now have L/T's and am waiting for a dyno pull. Definetly made a difference.

I'm not a tech but i do work at the dealership (car sales) I'm just someone who likes his car and does most of his own work. I have had my 96 GT since it was new and over those 10 years i've seen alot so i try to help out the new guys who are buying up these cars at great bargains. It does help when your good friend is a Ford Tech for 15 years....its good to have his brain to pick.
