RE: 5w30 / 10w30 ??
Wow, when I lived in FL, my 2.3 Mustang had 20w50. No damage and didn't burn any oil. I traded it at 90K. Something about being hit by a semi...
Anyway, this is good info we can all use. Thanks.

I use 5W-30 Royal Purple full premium synthetic oil. Engine absolutely loves it. I suggest you try to determine why your engine is burning oil and then make some kind of logical choice on oil type and weight. I say the 10W-30 high mileage oil you are considering will be fine to help with your problem providing there is no kind of mechanical failure causing the oil burning. No oil will necessarly correct that kind of problem. There are also high mileage synthetics out there. In a higher mileage vehicle I drive in the winter, I use Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 with Valvolines high mileage "additive". Works perfectly fine together.
Bottom line: if you are burning oil and using 5W-30, it would probably be a wiser choice to switch to 10W-30 as the 5W oil make pass through your engine that much faster due to its lighter weight. Although they are both capable of 30 weight, I still feel the lighter base may pass through quicker in some cases. Depends on the climate you live in. If it is hot all the time, a higher yet engine oil may be a better choice. In a cold climate, the 5W does help with start-ups and circulation. Run 10W-30 (or maybe even 10W-40) in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter. I am sure you will get alot of suggestions on this one.
