93 mph in second at red line
I have a question about the gears in my 1996 GT. Before I bought my car I had test driven mustangs before but I never really opened them up. Now that I have my own I have gotten the chance to redline through the first couple of gears and my speedo shows 93-94 mph. the dealership never said anything about gears or anything and I was just wondering if all 96's did this?

WOW!!!! Were you really going 96mph in 2nd gear? or did the speedo say that. Redline in 2nd with every mustang I have driven with a 5spd seems to be about 60mph. If you weren't going 96 then you have gears and the speedo wasn't recaled, but if you were, that thing must be slow off the line with the gearing they put in it.

hahahahaha thats funny!!! stock gears 90 mph in 2nd? and you didnt throw something? lol
Sounds like the rear gears are not stock, 4:10's redline in 2nd at about 50- 55
But they will set your speedo off between 15- 35 mph depending on the speed...

I think you can tell the difference between 55-60 and 90 miles per hour. I dont think there is any way possible for you to do 90 in 2 because that would make 1st gear so high you would have to push the car to get it started!

My speedo actually shows close to 98 mph, I drove by one of those signs that show you how fast you are going and my gauge is 6 mph over than my cars actual speed. My car doesn't seem that slow off the line and I kind of like it, when I race people I only have to shift once!
I really want 4:10's, I think it would be a dramatic difference from the gears I have now.
And yes, I have 17 by 9's in the front with 235's and 17 by 10.5 cobra R replicas with 275's in the rear, its not the best for handling but I love the look.

I think If you've got gears, the higher the RPM's the more your speedo will be off so it's probably more than just 6 at that speed. I'm not 100% sure though.
