yeah what he said. i bet there pushin 300 hp just to keep up with the 99 +. that car is most likely trying to be sold on its new body style not its power. 300 hp is nice but if it weighs more than us than we are gonna smoke it. hey man pass the 05 over here i need a tote lol. even if it is faster you have a 40th aniversary stang. just as special as the new stang be proud of what u got.

Ill look into the cams, but most likely I will do smaller bolt ons first. As yet I havent found anybody in this area who can tune my car when I modify it. I may be forced to spend $300 + on a diablo or other tuner.

Dont get me wrong Im not dissapointed in the least by my GT Ive yet to lose a single "race". Granted I live in Sumter south carolina so the only competition is a buncha rice and maybe a 1500 Hemi once in awhile.

My worst fear is that when the 05 Stangs come out they will be the same price.. gives them bragging rites.
"I paid the same as you and got more... har har har!" But oh well, guess we're all on the same team trying to fry some rice. Just hope the 05's dont forget it.

In the previous post I used competition and 1500 hemi together. I didnt mean competition for any GT just meant that the HEMI drivers here THINK they are compeition.

so is weight, that much more important?
So a stock '90 5.0 notchback 5pseed can smoke an 04 GT 5speed?
its only a 35 hp difference...

The newer ones have 40 more at the fly
and I can't imagine it weighing more than the difference of the two mentioned above

What type of cams would I be looking for and what price range for part and install? Im a bit new to this.
On a near stock engine, to go the cheapest route and get the best cams possible for a daily driver, go with VT stage 1 cams. They will add 30+ flywheel hp easily, and you wont loose hardly anything down low - and you won't need to worry with changing your valvesprings for them.

Labor shouldn't be much, it depends on which route the shop takes installing them. With the new anderson cam tool I can change a set of 4.6 2v cams in an hour and a half. But, without the tool I'd have to pull the timing cover and that would add a good 2 hours to the job. So...

Labor on VT cams w/out chaning springs would run you about 3 hours labor - most shops are $70/hr so about $210.00 if their smart, if not then it's gonna be about $450.00. It takes a good 4 hours to do the valve springs by the way. The cams would cost you about $550.00 and you will need either a programmer to fix your a/f ratio or get a tune somewhere. If not your gonna have ideling problems.

A cam change is the single biggest "borderline bolt-on" hp increase you can make to your car. But.. if your not doing it yourself and your gonna have to pay for a tune as well - the cost can easily exceed $1,300.00
Hey md....you should invest in a air rachet.....

I took my heads off in an hour and a half today. (i know this is the exact time because i was going to take them to a machine shop and they closed at one).

you know if the 05 has 300hp it would have to weigh a lot more for the 04 to come even with it. im sure stock they will be able to hit a 13.9 but if the weight is more on them. than a slightly moded 99+ gt wouldnt be that far off. we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Yah, I think weight makes a good deal of difference. I know I'm gonna get some heat about this from the guys that don't like MM&FF, but did you guys read the GTO/Mach 1 shootout in the July issue? Although there are other factors involved, a 3465lb, 310hp 4.6, 5-speed Mach 1 edged out a 3774lb, 350hp 5.7 LS1, 6-speed GTO. However we all know that more HP does not always mean lower ET. Maybe its a fluke...
