Default Third gear bites!!

What is the deal with 3rd gear?! Am I the only one having problems with 3rd?

Was sitting at a lite today and an Accord v-6 came up. No warning or anything i.e reving, eye contact... nothing! I was lighting my cigg...lite turns green and he peels and his two lackeys in the back seat just look at my car and laugh. So I decided to give it a go even though he got a head start.

By the time I hit second I was ahead of him going at about 4000rpm. I went for 3rd just to polish him off and bam! I couldnt shift. Second time... bam! By this time he got in front. Third time... finaly got 3rd and I dropped the clutch, I saw him in my rear view take an immediate turn. Which was too bad because there was another light comming up heh.

Anyhow, Ive driven manuals for over 10 years, whats the deal with this tremec?

Stock tremec on 2004 gt, T-3650? No its a brand new car, Itll go into 3rd whenever I want it to. Just once in awhile when Im shifting really fast it hits the divider where the stick goes in.

Was just wondering if maybe a short throw would help with this prob.

Yes you need a Much better short throw shifter. Thats the problem. My good friend has a 2002 Gt with 2,700 miles on it and his does it also sometimes. but a better shifter will fix it. I didn't know your car came factory with a tremec?

A better shifter wont fix it really. I have a Pro 5.0 and its still a bi*ch sometimes when Im shifting in a hurry. Its all in the tranny! It just gets really stubborn when you try to powershift into third.

im new to a manual i know how to drive one, but racing im no expert i have alwase had an auto. i dont power shift when i race i just shift as fast as i can. i havent missed 3rd yet. but i did miss 4th one time. but that was my fault. maybe it has something to do with power shifting. if you are power shifting? i know when im shifting it dosent go to 3rd the smothest. when im on the 2nd to 3rd shift im thinking please go in please go in lol. but so far ive hit it everytime. its the hardest shift to make outta the 3.

I have a 2002 GT and I really have to rape 3rd gear. The problem is, your used to throwing down from 1st to 2nd, your not very confident you'll hit 3rd gear so you let the shifter spring itself into what you think is 3rd gear, and your just pushing it.

I used to miss 3rd gear all the time. It wasn't until I quit expecting the shifter will point me into the right direction. I just aim up and to the left and slam her into gear lol.

Hasn't failed yet! hahah

Well, glad to know its not just me. Im purchasing a Steeda Tri-ax next week.

From what I was told the t-3650 tremec comes standard on the 2004 mustang gt.

i think the big problem here is everyone is hearing gripes about tremecs so all the sudden you're attributing your laziness to the transmission. they are not automatic, you have to physically put them into third. just because you psych yourself into missing third does not mean your transmission is faulty.
