cold air vs ram air??

RE: cold air vs ram air??
With the densecharger (only if you get the mass air meter kit) they add an elbow to turn the filter to the down position. The purpose is to have a double bend, instead of one, to help keep the airflow less turbulant as it goes through the mass air meter. If its not there then the turbulant air may cause drivability problems. You sure your air filter isn't in the down position?

Positive man... it was without the ProM 85mm MAM. When I bought the MAM The guy sent a coupling that connected to the elbow in the engine compartment. The filter connects to the coupling he sent and it sticks straight out.

Their shoulda been an extra elbow that connects to the part that meets the fender. The elbow and filter would be the only part in the fenderwell area and it should certainly be there. The double bend helps to smooth the airflow for the meter. Now if your meter was calibrated for a straight shot into the fender then thats fine (thats how the older kits were), but you need to be sure. The double bend was put there because alot of people experienced drivability problems (surging, etc.) with aftermarket maf's and cai kits (because the aftermarket units don't have a screen).

If the MAM is set up for the turn down they will send it to you in the kit. I dont think mine was calibrated for the turn down. There will be instructions in there for you to read and it gives you a pretty good idea of how to do it. Once you get to doing it it will take you about an hour with the help of a friend and you will be surprised at how easy it is. The hardest part for me was getting the filter up in the wheel well and havint someone put it together while I hold it up. Other than that, it was relatively easy.
