Default clutch question

I noticed that since I had my car the clutch is very stiff, a lot more stiffer than a stock gt clutch. I have been just saying that its a aftermarket clutch since I thought thats why its stiff like that. I have been thinkin recently that it might not be. To make a long story short, how can i tell if its a damaged stock clutch or is it a aftermarket. Lately I have been missing gears a lot more frequently than I used to and I noticed that when the engine is off and I push the clutch in I can hear a very faint squeak, thats only in a very quiet area though. It also feels quite similar to a terminators clutch, but this guy I know that has a terminator cobra said my clutch feels a lil more stiff than his.

The more worn a clutch is, the stiffer it can feel. I had a worn King Cobra and it was very stiff. I figured it might have been because it was aftermarket, but recently I bought a new King Cobra and had it installed and the pedal feel was much lighter. The problem you're having with shifting and the squeaking noise is probably due to a bad throw-out bearing. When you replace your clutch, the kit should include a throw-out bearing along with the pressure plate and clutch disc. Just replace your clutch assembly and you should be alright. Also, the things that are not included in a clutch kit that you might want to get is a pilot bearing and an alignment tool. Together they should cost around $15.

You can purchase a King Cobra Clutch kit if you have a T-45 Transmission. You either have a T-45 or T-3650 depending on your manufacture month. It's fairly cheap, about $160 @ Americanmuscle.com if you use the discount code "mustangboards"

As for the Pilot Bearing and Alignment tool, I bought mine from Overnight Autoparts for $15 shipped total.

Close to stock, just a little better.

thats a expensive clutch...Im definatly getting mine from americanmuscle.com I wish I could get a king cobra but they dont make it for my tranny. Ill try to just get the spec stage 1...Does anyone know how much a clutch install runs? BTW my current clutch grabs and grabs hard, does not slip at all. R u guys sure its life is almost over...Its weird because it feels a lot shorter than every GT I drove and it also grabs as soon as i let off. I just cant tell if its aftermarket.

I'm not sure you have a bad clutch. I'm not there in your car to feel what is going on. I have no divinitive diagnosis on your problem and nor does anyone else.

If the clutch is grabbing quickly, it could just be a cable adjustment issue. If you're noticing more and more missed shifts, it could still be to much slack in the clutch cable. On the flip side, these problems could also be a sign of a worn clutch. If you are not sure, take it to a trusted shop to have it properly diagnosed.
