Default ? on Mustangs and mileage

I've always been a fan of Mustangs but this will be my first time owning one. Having a family I can't go out and buy brand new so I will be purchasing a used GT. The four I have narrowed my search down to are: Black 01 GT with 65K, Black 00 GT with 64K, a Red 98GT vert with 79K and a Black 96GT with 75K. I know that a big part of how long the car will last depends on how it was taken care of by the previous owner(s). What I was wondering was are there any things that inherently go bad with Mustangs when they near certain mileage marks. My ultimate goal (in about a year) is to install a Vortech S/C. By the way these are all automatics. Just wanna say that I have been learning much by reading here, and you guys give alot of great info in these posts as well as supply a few laughs. Thanks in advance.

I have a '02 with 45,450 miles on it and it runs incredibly. I am the second owner and got it at 30,000 miles. I keep the oil changes done on time and I just got the 30,000 mile services done (didnt know if the previous owner got them done at 30,000 miles) Its a great car. I dont think I will EVER get rid of it.

I would say get the '96 GT and soup that thing up!

sup

I bought my 99 cobra with 29k on it. I have all services and she still perrs. As long as you take care of a car it will stay in good shape. Don't get me wrong you will have something wrong once in a while which is normal to every car out there.

Actually, you will be VERY dissappointed that you didn't get a fox Body .

Didn't even come close to naming one on your list

Part of my (incorrect or not) logic behind buying a 'vert was that it was owned by an older doctor and I didn't think he would have been as hard on it as a say a 19-year old w/ a hardtop GT. I've got nearly 90,000 on mine and it runs great! I love my car. You need to ask whether you want a convertible or not. You threw it in the mix, and I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Remember that 'verts are heavier, have more "twist" in the body, and generally need more upkeep in that you will have to replace the roof at some point. That's the negatives. The positives are just the fact 'verts look cooler and you can put the top down. hehe

'99+ have more horsepower and a "meaner" look to them. Lower mileage is good, but all the mileages are fairly close considering the difference in year models. You can save a bundle on the "older" models and have more money to mod with. At the same time, save on your insurance because they don't have to know what your real horsepower is. They know 99+ have more and charge accordingly.

Lots of factors to consider. Personally though, I'd consider the owners, and go with the one that would indicate the least "ragging out" if price were not an issue. Course, I'd also pick the convertible every time if I could. I don't think my daughter will ever let me have anything different either.

dont get the older model... they are slow as ****... if i were u, i'll go with the newer ones like the 01, and 00... I got a 00GT and it's alright.. i got it at 20k miles for $14500... keep looking around.. u'll find a cheap one like the one i got.... since mine still had the warrenty, i took it into the shop right away to get a new transmission in... make up some bullsh!t about how ur transmission is not working so well and they'll install a new one for u... for free
