Default Issue: Clutch pedal rattles

I'm curious if anyone has run into this issue. I have an 02 GT 5 speed that I purchased new in 10/01. Just a few months after I drove it off the lot I noticed the clutch pedal rattles......sometimes. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it starts doing it, it will keep doing this for a few days it seems. It happens when driving and when I let the clutch out the pedal itself rattles/vibrates and is very noticeable and annoying. If I take my foot and bump the pedal it will stop the vibration and rattling, until the next time I shift and let the clutch out, then it starts it again. I've only noticed it in gears 2,3,4. It almost seems like the pedal itself doesn't have enough tension on it. Maybe it is an adjustment? I have no idea. I've posted this issue in the past with no solution so here goes again.

Thanks

I too have an 02 GT and have a similar noise. At first I thought it has a lose heat shield or something like that, but it wasn't. Mine usually doesthis when i give it gas at low RPMs. it does it a lot in 3th and 5th. I wonder if the noise is really coming from the clutch?

If I lightly rest my foot against the pedal when I hear the rattling noise I can feel the pedal vibrating. Once I tap the pedal with my foot it goes away. (weird) I never thought it might be something else though. It just seems like the tension on the pedal itself isn't tight enough to keep it from vibrating when the engine is at certain rpm's. Its just a weird problem I wish I knew a solution too.

I've got the same problem...my clutch is going out though. When I first bought the car, it rattled like once a week, but now, a year and a half later, it rattles all the time---so annoying!!! An adjustable clutch cable with firewall adapter might help. I bought one and all you have to do to adjust the clutch cable is turn the little **** in the firewall..didn't help me too much but it might help you.

you could try a firewall cable adjuster... take some slack out of that pedal, keep it somewhat tight, but dont have it so tight that its riding.

Sounds like a quadrant issue or cable stretch.
I know my GT will make a POP noise in clutch pedal every so often when I let out clutch fast.

Stock plastic quadrant are crap.IMO

No preload on the fork/throwout bearing will cause a rattle. I've found that when the throwout bearing has a very slight preload on the pressure plate it will not rattle.

Have you tried adjusting the stock quadrant? It has an automatic adjustment feature on it. lift UP on the clutch pedal with your foot. It's a rachet design that will engage the next tooth on the quadrant removing the slack from a strectched cable.
