Car just started making a rather strange, but VERY LOUD noise.

I think it's an exhaust leak, which i hope will be easily fixed...but....

When the car gets to about 2k rpm it starts making this loud fluttering/knocking/rattle sound. then after about 3k-3.5k it stops. only in 1st gear, then in 2nd it does it again, but not as loud. It is coming from under the car, near the cats. I can see black stuff around the seals so i am guessing a leak.

but there is somthing that may make me think otherwise.

IT is hard to explain, but if i slip the clutch just right i can make the noise start and stop...wtf?

no idea but, if there back stuff (carbon) there then it would have taken a while build up, so i think anyhow, and you said the noise just started

i think there has always been a small leak, just not very noticable...and that is where the carbon cam from....either that or its road dirt...



well i dhould re-phrase. it didnt just start. For a few months now, when i would start the car, it would make the noise...when it would crank the exhaust (i think) would make a fluttering noise just under the driver seat, so that is right near the cats. But then it wouldnt make that noise while i drove. But it just started making the noise WHILE I DRIVE. and now its realy loud.
