Bad in my opinion as when manufactured they are machined as a set and since they have been used it is very unlikely that they would be set in the same positions as previously used. Whining gearsets seem to be bad enough with new gearsets let alone used. Anyone try used?

Yea i bought a set of used 410's, they didnt have bad wear marks. Thats the only thing to check for is wear marks. If its all grooved up and stuff then dont buy them. The only reason i bought them is because they were only $40.00 and i had a 1991 auto. I had my neibhor put it in and it dropped my 1/8 mile et by .5.

bottom line physically look at them before buying.

For 70 more bucks you can get a brand new set of gears. Doesn't make any sense to buy used.

Do it right or don't do it at all. Don't make the installation any more difficult than it needs to be. If you destroy your pinion it's most likely going to take some other parts with it all because you tried to save a buck. [8D]

Exactly I would not put in used gears. Very likely that they will whine.

For the cost of install, might as well get the new parts to begin with. It would suck having to do it twice.

really? i though it depended on the install if theres whine or not, at least with motives.
yea buying used gears didnt sound like a good idea to me. the reason i thought about it is because some dumb v6er posted that you can with no bad effects.
im going to be installing my own gears with help by my ase certified instructor in my trans class. it will be fun and cheap.
