does anyone know how strong a bottom end is on a 2000 GT? Im redoing my motor and im wondering how worth it it may be to go all forged?

some shops I've talked to say around 420hp ( forget tq #'s ) . but , I've heard there's some out there pushing 450+hp on bottom end . not sure how long they lasted though .

its good to about 400-450. its unsure as to how long it will last from there. so will go longer than others. depending on your mods and how far you want to take your car the choice is up to you. good pistons and rods will run you about $1500 bucks. then add in labor to whoever is going to do the work. you can get a short block from DSS or Livernoise or someone like that that will be in the $3,000 range depending on how strong you get the pistons etc. there are a few companies to search and another good one is VT. just debate on how much power you will be making and what power adder your going with because that will figure in to the compression ratio as to what you want the cc's at.

right.. i have heard the same 400-420hp..
ive also heard to only run like 6-8psi, on a stock block to make sure things stay "intact"

anyways!!! in order to run like 12-14 psi what would you need to do to our 2Vs?? is it worth it in the end?? or better to move on to a new ride?

From what we have learned here, the cast crank is good for about 500 but the rods and pistons are at about 425 with a good tune, good luck.

Go to ebay .. get the 2v forged internals kit .. ( crank, h beam rods, etc .. ) for about 1300 dollars .. then pay a shop about 700 to install the kit .. and you'll be good to go for up to 800-900 hp ..

But as far as stock .. you really don't want to push anything over 400 rwhp .. you'll be flirting with a time bomb after that ..

if your redoing your motor anyways might as well get some nice aftermarket pieces.

Keep it below 400 to stay safe. If you go over 400 start putting money aside for a new motor!

some ppl say the blocks themselves can take up to 1k hp, but the rotating assembly needs to be replaced for anything above 450, i'de say it's worth it, you can get a good rotating assembly(crank, rods, pistons) for around 1500-2k, and get it installed for for probably another 1k-1500, im not sure how much installation is, but it would be my guess that its 800+. and it's still cheaper to replace the internals than to go get a cobra motor.
