Mysterious noise HELLPP!!!!!!

RE: Mysterious noise HELLPP!!!!!!
Below is Steeda's response. Just so you don't waste your $$, I bought the isolator kit. Nada difference. It goes away in 15 minutes on the highway when the tranny heats up and the fluid expands. I turn up the radio til then. Do you have a Steeda shifter? I am actually thinking of going back to the stock shifter.
Steeda's response:
Mike, as our Steeda Tri-Ax Shifters are drastically more solid, more positive and use no rubber or plastic components, internal transmission gear noise that is always present even in a new trans. will be amplified and transmitted through the shifter. This seems to quiet down after warming up as fluids are flowing better and the internals expand to take up cold clearances. The reason for the 5th gear only condition is that in 5th there is less load applied to the 5th/reverse cluster and as you tip in & out of throttle as small as an operation as it is, will cause a slack in that assembly and therefore noise! It is not a concern more so than an annoyance. We do have a Shift Isolator Kit # 555-7096 @ $7.95 that will lessen these effects if need be. Let me know if we can be of further help. This information will also tell you how smart the Ford Dealer Tech's are!!!

RE: Mysterious noise HELLPP!!!!!!
yeah i have the steeda as well. Although i get the noise in 3rd gear as well. I am in definant need of a rebild though as i have trouble shifting into 2nd,3rd and now 4th seems to be going. I'm sure that the internals are worn and there is a lot more slack than there should be.

Not a big fan of the Steeda. At least the shifter anyway. Nice short throws but I don't care for the rachety feeling when shifting. My 67 with a Tremec TK0500 shifts way better. I may have it replaced in the spring. Noise while driving, other than the radio, makes me nuts.

Wow....update on this....you guys were damn close on the noise. Apparently my car is an out of state car. I live in CA and we found that the car came from Missouri. Well long story short after crawling under there myself and checking things out.....transmission guidepins were rusted out. Replaced them ....and low and behold NO noise...thanks for the suggestions.
