a ls1 is rated at 310, it puts down just under that, [8D]

auto or stick doesnt really make a difference, unlike the pos 4R70W in the stangs, they are running a 4L60-E in the fbodys, which wiht a stall and shift kit, will flat out rape a 6 speed

A 4R70W with a shift kit and TC will rape a 5sp GT and they are pretty strong tranny's compared to the 5speeds.

even stock, with equal gearing (most A4 fbodys had 2.73s) if they were both equal with 3.23s it would be a drivers race, with the edge on the auot

ORIGINAL: GreyStangDamn dude, "auto vs manual" topic gets beaten to death here.. do a search! And umm,, manual is just plain better,, get over it
My automatic is very helpful for me since I have had 3 back surgeries and a stick is more painful to drive. Also a well set up auto can be as quick as a stick if that is important to anyone. Mark

i was just having the LS1 talk on a different forum and some poeple say they were underrated and realy have about 350 hp to the crank, the guy says his LS1 with very high mileage put out 288 to the wheels. but auto n manual, its purely a personal thing. i have an auto and still really like it, it also helped me fairly well since it was my first car, i didn't have to concentrate on shifting, i just could keep my eyes on the road. manuals can be more fun in some situations though but for everyday driving i'd rather have an auto, keeps me a free hand to do whatever. and for the 8% power loss, that could easily be made up with other upgrades anyway.

in about 5-10 years i think that the whole auto vs. manual debate will be pointless because of cvt's. not sure if they'll put cvt's in sports cars but they'll probably put them in other vehicles for sure. some saturns and other brands already have them.

In 5-10 more years we won't NEED cvt transmissions, because a lot of cars will be powered by superconductive electric motors that are fed by a revolutionary breakthrough in battery technology

Untill that day happens give me a standard tranny FTW [8D] Sure you can "optimize" an auto tranny & it's torque converter, but they will still rob engine power in their operation. But autos are good in a couple of areas.. in bracket racing they can be more consistent, and in state-of-the-art top fuel funny cars they haul ***. Also I guess if you suffer from a sore knee they can help avoid working a clutch lol

touche. anyway its pointless to debate this topic. they have their positives and negatives. in the end it just comes down to preference
