Saleen had a 351 in there 99 S351 so it will fit and there are parts out there to do it. Maximum Motorsports has a K Member to help it fit.

I wouldn't do it unless i wanted a serious NA car but it can and has been done.

I saw a 2000 GT that had a 460 in it. It was forsale on ebay a while back. The owner had just cut a big friggin hole in the hood though and it looked like arss and i think a 4.6 forged FI motor could have gone a lot further and actually fit better and weighed a lot less but thats just me.

My favorite mustang of all time, the Saleen Mustang SR, had a 525 hp supercharged 351 in it from the factory so a 351 is nothing new for a mustang. Plus the 95 cobra R's had 5.8's as well.

For the price of a blown 4.6L, you can do a stroked and blown 351 that could nearly double the output of the 4.6L. The OHV Windsor has a lot of support in the aftermarket and has much better flowing heads available. All crate engines are rated by flywheel horsepower.

Swapping a 351W into any Fox chassis is very easy. The SN95 and New Edge are just Fox chassis' with extra bracing and a different name.

EDIT: I do like the 4.6L engine, it just doesn't have the support of the aftermarket and is in real need of a larger bore for some good heads. 'til then, it makes me a nice economical little V8.
This is what I've been trying to say...

I don't know why a lot of folks don't understand that a 351, can be a much more superior engine, due to the fact that the block, and most of the design has been around for near 40 years... There has been plenty of time doing flow testing, parts breaking, fuel tuning, and all the other stuff that goes w/ it..

Believe it or not, a 302/351 block weighs the same as a 4.6, if not a little less.. Add the fact that there are a host of trannies that will bolt up or need just an adapter plate to work, along w/ the host of cams, intakes, superchargers, carbs and even fuel injection systems, that have all been proven..

Also, think, 281cid = 4.6 351cid = 5.7+

Its a stupid idea, its going to cost major $$ to get it to work unless you own your own personal fab shop and can do all the work yourself, and you cannot sit here and state its going to cost XXX unless you have done it all before and know of every little PITA thing you need to have to make it work.

One thing I can gaurentee you... I can make more power with a FI 4.6L than you can with a n/a 351... and thats what your talking about doing.

Dollar for dollar, even with the cost of a junkyard PI engine, I can still make more power with a FI setup than a n/a 351 build by the time you acutally get it in the car.

Simply put, if you want a 351/302 pushrod, why the hell would you buy a SN95+ car?? Just sell the sucker, and buy a fox AND the engine build for the price you got for your newer car alone. Not only is it a crapton easier (and cheaper) but the foxbody cars weigh less.

Edit:

GodAm:

The results I have had with my car have nothing to do with luck. Simply put, the combonation I am using is going to have the same (or really close) results on any 99-04 2v car. There isn't any secret, its just a little bit of trial and error and a LOT of research and thought put into the car.

400+ WHP is easily in reach with a couple simple boltons and some FI on a stock motor. You can either do that, or face the horror that is an engine swap (while changing engine type).

I wanted to also mention, that someone quoted for $7500 you can do the same w/ a 4.6, however, when I was checking your #'s, you stated almost $10,000 for your setup.. How can you say that, when you also didn't include the tuning, and or other sensors/snags you may encounter w/ that?? That alone could put you near $12,000.. That's a bit more than the $7500 to make 400hp, and still not have a complete setup..

I'm going to do a little more checking, because I've read about high compression 351's that put out near 500hp w/ a big carb... I also still stand by the fact, that if you want to go really big, it's still going to be WAY cheaper to do a 351 swap, whether you go fuel injected or carbed..

Plus, what was just mentioned a few posts back, there are already provisions for the SN95/New Edge body style, to squeeze a 351 in there.. If you purchased the block, and all the parts, it'd take little fab work, mostly to the exhaust, which is nothing for a custom shop.. Everything else could remain in terms of the suspension, brakes, and you could even remove most of the wiring harness.. You may need a new hood..

I'm still not sold on the fact that even a junkyard 4.6 w/ bolt-ons will still be able to respond better, and put out more power than a mildly prepared 351.. And even if I haven't done it, it's not hard to do rough estimations, based off of current high market value of parts/labor if you didn't do it yourself..

Like I mentioned before, this could go back and forth all day... And I still say that the best way to do it, is yourself... A shop will nickel and dime you..

I have well over 10K into my setup, but I am counting everything, not just the engine stuff.

If you were to start with a clean slate, this is what you need (and approx prices). This is assuming you start with a good PI 4.6L... so add 600-1000 bucks for a junkyard motor for this guy:

Supercharger kit : 3800-4000
DIY intercooler (500~) or cams + valvesprings (800~)
Full exhuast 1200~
T/b and plenum 300-400?

This is everything you need on a stock 4.6L PI engine to make 400+ WHP. Even adding up all the higher numbers your only at 6400 bucks, with the low side around 5800. I

Keep in mind though, you are DEFINATLY not going to just spend XXX on the motor and your done. Your going to spend XXX on the motor, then XXX to change back to a return style fuel system (GL getting your returnless to work on a carb car) then XXX for the new bellhousing/clutch/flywheel, then XXX on a custom exhaust setup (I don't want to know what a set of custom headers runs... thousand bucks maybe?) and xxx on getting it all installed/wired/tuned/setup correctly...

Its just going to be one long massive pain in the ***.. and for what. For the same or less cost you can have a 400+ WHP 4.6L that will still drive like a STOCKER (have you ever been in a build pushrod setup? How about daily driven one? Big cams and high compression that are needed for 400+ WHP n/a a daily driver does not make) and still get 22 MPG on the highway.

And a "mild combonation" 351W setup isn't going to make 400+ WHP. My father owns a 69 mach 1 with the 351W. Its a ported (stock) heads/cammed/intake/carb/rotating assembly (higher compression) job with full exhaust etc, and he isn't anywhere near 400 WHP. Needless to say, its not even a race between his and my car (not even close)

I am not downing the pushrod stuff, they definatly make more power bothn/a and FI (more cubic inches.. you do the math) but it simply makes no since to attempt to stick one in a 99-04 GT. By the time you get over the cost of buying and building an entire new engine assembly you could have FI on your stock 4.6.

I don't think you are looking at the big picture here. If you have never attempted to do a motor swap before (espcially going from a EFI SOHC setup to a carbed pushrod) you just don't understand all the little things that can (and will) go wrong and nickel and dime you to death.
