Default loud click noise

Umm my 96 mustang GT is starting to make a noise, im not to sure of wut it is , i get the noise at about 1,500 rpms after shifting from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd and its like a loud click, im not sure of wut it is i thought it could be the pressure plate in the clutch or the u-joint, if any1 has any ideas on wut it can be please let me know

Does it do it when you go from rolling forward to rolling backwards or just at a certain rpm in a forward gear?

I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be a u-joint. I'd say start with that, u-joints are cheap enough, most likely will be the cure...yea, when the u-joint was bad in mine, it would click like you said, and it got progessively louder as I accelerated. Also noticed when I accelerate harder rather than slower, it would worsen the noise. I really thought it was my throw out bearing or something to do with the clutch, but lucky just a bad u-joint.

Why are you shifting at 1500 rpms....that's the problem. Ford's have a 'loose' drive train, shift above 2,000 rpms and it won't happen anymore.

Are you sure it's the exhaust? I'd still check the U-joints. Mine does the same thing, it clicks when I let out the clutch and give it throttle, and I assume it's the U-joints. Just haven't gotten around to replacing them yet. Check to be sure because U-joints are a lot cheaper than a new exhaust.

i threw my car up on the lift and the u-joints are fine on it, owell just a good excuse to get new exhaust instead of using my stock exhaust haha

I had that happen on one of my cars and it turned out to be a tire sperrating. you may want to check your tires.

Just a thought G'luck
